10 signs that your job isn’t the right fit for you

With the summer vacations finishing and many are  going back to work, it is prudent to keep the following signs in mind as the year progresses.  Here are 10 signs that your job isn’t the right fit for you anymore and possibly it’s time to consider how you can either improve your job conditions or simply quit. However, if multiple signs apply to your situation, then it’s time to exit fast and do not look behind (at your own risk).

1.       Are you excited to go work? 

If  it is hard for you to wake up in the morning, and you press the snooze alarm few times before you get out of bed, then you are in the wrong job.  If most mornings you are feeling little or no excitement towards your job, then start looking for something new.

2.       Do you like the people you work with and/or your boss? 

Obviously there will be those you like and those you don’tHowever, if you feel you are “forcing” yourself to deal with your colleagues, or it is hard for you to discuss work challenges with your direct supervisor/boss then it is time to change.

3.       Are you adding value? 

Other than you believing you are having a positive contribution to the work environment, who else sees your value?  If your effort and commitment are not appreciated, then ask yourself why; and the answer may lead you to look for a new career!

4.       Are you’re consistently stressed, negative, or unhappy at work or outside of work?

 If you get anxious or unhappy just thinking about work, and at the same time you take your work issues home with you; that’s a good sign that it’s time to move on and quickly.

5.       Who are you socializing with?

Often said, “misery likes company”.  So if all the corridor and coffee table talks revolve around how bad something or someone is; and you see yourself surrounded by negative minded people, then you are psyching yourself to leave.

6.       Is your work-related stress affecting your health?

If you have a high BP, or anxiety or poor sleeping habits; then the answer is yes work is negatively affecting your health and probably those around you.  Then quit before you slowly deteriorate!

7.       Is your work performance suffering?

If you’re no longer productive at work, even though you know you are capable of performing the job at hand; then you ought to start looking for a new job.

8.       Are you missing out on key social event?

If you are no longer having a reasonable work-life balance and  you find that you’re spending less time with your family and friends because of work then you should explore other career options.

9.       Do you believe in the company?

If you feel that there are strategic or even operational and or ethical differences in how the company should operate then you are no longer fitting.  Company culture is bigger than you and you most probably will lose.  Make the move to maintain your integrity and preserve your sense of worth.

10.    Is your company sinking. 

You are not the savior and do not feel guilty if you leave.  There’s no need to go down with this ship, so put on your life vest and swim to shore.
